Burlingame is located 20 miles south of San Francisco on the San Francisco Peninsula. It was founded in the late 19th century by wealthy investors from San Francisco whose inspiration came from the City Beautiful movement championed by Frederick Olmsteadt, the designer of New York’s Central Park. All street would be lined with trees. Numerous landscaped Parks, squares, circles and crescents would add to the village Character.
A Mission style train depot was built at the foot of Burlingame Avenue which would be lined with picturesque commercial buildings creating a downtown village of tremendous allure. Today, Burlingame is still a small town in the Norman Rockwell tradition.
